 Biography of

Dr. Dennis Deer CCFC, CRC, LCPC

Dennis Deer was born and raised on Chicago's West side in the midst of gangs, murders, drugs and other violence. Yet he made the cognitive choices to turn down guns, not throw up gang signs, and chose to start praying and looking at positive role models. Subsequently Dennis left Chicago to attend Jackson State University where he earned the Bachelor of Science in Elementary/Special Education and the Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Psychology. 

A few years later Dennis continued his quest for knowledge and earned the Doctor of Christian Psychology Degree. Dennis is also Founder of Deer Rehab Services Inc. and Law Enforcement Family Training Services both organizations are full service training, curriculum design and consulting firms. Dr. Deer Graduated from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business class and was elected class speaker. Dr. Deer delivered what has been described as an electrifying speech, afterwhich he introduced the Legendary Billionaire Warren Buffett (Oracle of Omaha).

In addition, Dennis has served as an instructor at the Cook County Sheriffs Training Institute for the past 15 years, where he conducted leadership, diversity, psychology and conflict resolution courses to staff ranging from new recruit to the executive team of Superintendents. Dennis has over 20 years of experience serving disenfranchised and disadvantaged populations. In addition, Dennis is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Clinically Certified Forensic Counselor and a Certified Corrective Thinking Therapist. He has lead staff/corporate trainings in various settings across the nation including schools, jails and law enforcement agencies. Dennis believes that he is living proof that choice plays a great part in change, and that with every choice (negative or positive) there is a consequence.

Dennis serves on many Boards and was appointed to the IDHS Domestic Violence Advisory Council (DVAC), Partner Abuse Intervention Programs Subcommittee and the Executive Steering Committee of D.V.A.C. Dennis is also Vice President of the Illinois Coalition Againt Domestic Violence. In addition, Dennis works diligently with Cong. Danny Davis (As Co-Chairman of 7th Congressional District Ex-offender Taskforce), the late Commissioner Robert Steele (As Chair 2nd County District Community Advisory Council) and others to impact change in public policy. In addition Dennis co-founded the North Lawndale Community Coordinating Council and serves on the Executive Sub-Committee and as Chair of the Infrastructure and Transportation Committee's. Dennis also serves on the board of Strategic Human Services. Dennis is an Illinois Law Enforcement Standards and Training Board Certified Instructor, as well as a cognitive restructuring national trainer. He has also written several books and articles, including his dynamic book
“Unwrapping The Box”, Dominating Practical Principles to Eliminating Box Thinking. Dr. Deer was recently appointed to serve as Cook County Commissioner of the 2nd District, replacing his long time friend and mentor the late Commissioner Robert Steele.
